The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation has a threefold mission to educate Arkansans, to encourage the timely detection of prostate cancer, and to engage men and their families with personal guidance from the day of diagnosis through survivorship. We make it easy to find a free community screening in your area and offer a wealth of educational resources on our website. We also offer a patient decision aid to help you determine when to begin regular screenings.

According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and your risk rises rapidly after age 50. Many cancers also run in families, with your risk more than doubling if you have a father or brother with prostate cancer. The good news is that not all prostate cancer is life-threatening, and early diagnosis is the key to the best clinical outcomes. And as you reach middle age, it’s a great time to start making a few easy lifestyle changes to ensure that you stay healthy and continue living your best life. Be sure to get plenty of regular exercise and start including more of these nutritious and tasty foods with  cancer-fighting properties in your diet:

Tomatoes contain the highest concentration of bioavailable lycopene, an antioxidant strongly linked to a decreased risk of prostate cancer. And if you love Italian food, you’ll be happy to know that consuming tomatoes in cooked or puréed form is the most effective way to enhance your body’s absorption of this powerful antioxidant!

Cruciferous Vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, and cauliflower are tasty, fiber-rich, and full of nutrients, including beta-carotene, folate, and vitamins C, E, and K. Additionally, during the process of preparation and digestion, cruciferous vegetables break down further into biologically active compounds that can inhibit cancer development,

A hot cup of Green Tea is an excellent way to wind down at the end of a busy day, and it’s also full of catechins, which are strong bioactive substances with anticancer properties. Green tea also helps boost metabolism, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and improve your memory and mental acuity.
