The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation proudly sponsors free community screenings in your area, and we encourage you to review our patient decision aid to determine when it’s time to begin regular prostate cancer screenings. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and it’s the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men. The good news is that millions of men just like you manage to survive and thrive after a prostate cancer diagnosis, and we’re here to support you every step of the way!
Like all other forms of cancer, early diagnosis is the key to achieving the best clinical outcomes, and not all prostate cancer is life-threatening. Here are just a few places where you can find educational resources and support, and we’re always an email or phone call away if you have any questions.
The American Cancer Society offers online support and resources for people affected by all forms of cancer, as well as their families and friends. Visiting a website should never be considered a substitute for receiving qualified medical advice from a licensed physician, but the ACS website is a great place to learn more about what risk category you’re in and review your treatment options if you’re diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization founded in 2003 by Thomas A. Farrington, a prostate cancer survivor. PHEN manages a coast-to-coast network that recruits and mobilizes prostate cancer survivors to provide education and awareness outreach within their communities. On the PHEN website, you can review educational videos, review treatment pathways, and learn more about clinical trials in or near your community.
APCF also proudly sponsors virtual support groups to ensure that those who are affected by prostate cancer never have to go through the journey alone! Our Peer Network is open to all and meets every third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. CST, both virtually and in-person, in Little Rock. The meetings provide a private and confidential setting for survivors to talk openly and join forces to handle all aspects of prostate cancer from diagnosis through treatment and recovery. To receive email notifications for our monthly peer network group meetings and other events, call us or sign up online.
