Growing older isn’t for the faint of heart, but it certainly beats the alternative! It’s never too early to start focusing on your wellness journey, and it’s absolutely crucial once you reach middle age! The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation makes it easy to find a free community screening in your area, and you’ll be taking an important step to ensure your long-term health and longevity!
Our screenings are free to the public and completely confidential. We also offer free online educational resources you can access 24 hours a day, and host live and virtual support groups for individuals who are affected by prostate cancer to ensure that they never have to go through their journey alone! Here are three great reasons to attend a community health screening in Arkansas, and we’re always a phone call away if you have any questions!
Early Detection Saves Lives— According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and cancer is the second leading cause of death for men in the United States. The good news is that not all prostate cancer is life-threatening, and the five-year survival rates are over 90% when detected early enough!
Screenings Help You Take Control of Your Health —Your risk of developing prostate cancer increases substantially after age 50, and nearly 60% of cases are diagnosed in men over 65. African American men face a higher risk of earlier and more aggressive forms of the disease, and your risk significantly increases if you have a family history of cancer. Annual exams provide an opportunity to discuss these risks with physicians and other trained professionals, and determine whether you require earlier or more frequent screenings.
A Simple Test Provides Peace of Mind—A routine exam not only saves lives but also delivers peace of mind for you and your loved ones. Most prostate cancers develop slowly, and regular screenings let you track your Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels over time. If the onsite evaluators encounter suspicious test results during a community screening, the APCF Patient Navigator will make contact with patients to explain test results, answer questions, and advise a urological consult if more investigation or a biopsy is warranted.
