What happens after a prostate cancer diagnosis?

The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation has a threefold mission to educate Arkansans, to encourage the timely detection of prostate cancer, and to engage men and their families with personal guidance from the day of diagnosis through survivorship. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and it’s also the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men. But not all cases are life-threatening, and millions of men just like you manage to survive and thrive after a prostate cancer diagnosis!

As with all other forms of cancer, early diagnosis and treatment are the key to achieving the best clinical outcomes. We proudly sponsor free community screenings in your area and encourage you to get screened at least once a year after you reach middle age. We also encourage you to review the free educational resources on our website, and click here to order copies of our most current books and literature.

If you’re diagnosed with prostate cancer, it’s essential to develop a treatment plan with a trusted doctor and learn as much as you can about the best ways to fight the disease. The American Cancer Society offers online support and resources for people affected by all forms of cancer, as well as their families and friends. The Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) manages a coast-to-coast network that recruits and mobilizes prostate cancer survivors to provide education and awareness outreach within their communities. PHEN’s website contains numerous educational videos discussing new treatment options, and it’s also a great place to learn more about clinical trials in or near your community.

We also encourage new prostate cancer patients to join our Peer Network, which is open to all and meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. CST, both virtually and in person in Little Rock. You’ll have the opportunity to talk openly with fellow survivors in a private and confidential setting, and join forces to handle all aspects of prostate cancer from diagnosis through treatment and recovery. To receive email notifications for group meetings and other events, call us or sign up online.
