Most boys can’t wait to be old enough to sport a little facial hair, but it’s certainly inconvenient for those of us who prefer a clean-cut look. But every November, over a million men put away their razors and let their whiskers grow for a very good cause. “No Shave November” is a fun yet impactful way to show support for prostate cancer survivors, and we cordially invite you to join us this year. There are also numerous great ways for women to participate and show support for the men in their lives.
The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation has a threefold mission to educate Arkansans, to encourage the timely detection of prostate cancer, and to engage men and their families with personal guidance from the day of diagnosis through survivorship. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and we’re here to ensure that those who are affected never have to go through the journey alone! Men of all ages across Arkansas are encouraged to participate in “No Shave November,” either individually or as part of a workplace competition or through social or church groups. All money raised will support awareness and educational programs, free prostate cancer screenings, and free patient assistance programs, and EVERY DOLLAR RAISED STAYS IN ARKANSAS!
To get started, download a sign-up sheet for your organization at this link and encourage all the men in your community to participate in a 30-day no-shave challenge. You’ll need to select a team captain to collect and secure all the money received and decide on a minimum donation per participant. Participants can solicit sponsorships and sell ballots for “best beard” competitions, and many companies are also willing to match the funds your group raises. When it comes to fundraising, you’re only limited by your imagination, and all donations are tax-deductible.
Encourage your participants to post progress pictures to social media using #NoShaveAPCF, and plan to drop off donations at the APCF office during the week of November 30. All participants who raise $500 or groups that raise $1,000 or more will also receive a special prize as a thank you from APCF!
