Support

"He ain't heavy. He's my brother." From the motto of Boys Town and song by The Hollies.

If you would like to talk with someone individually or there is not a support group in your area, our Survivor-Mentors are "on-call" at 1-800-338-1383.

Survivorship begins at diagnosis and continues through your treatment and beyond. A survivor is anyone battling cancer — the person who has been diagnosed, partner, friend, caregiver and/or extended family.

Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation Peer Network

The APCF Peer Network is a safe environment to talk freely about the different emotions you experience as you progress through the phases of survivorship. If you are newly-diagnosed, our network of survivors may help you sort out your concerns, ask questions of your health care team, and understand your treatment plan. After treatment, you may encounter physical, emotional and practical changes such as issues with employment and health insurance. Our Peer Network can help you find and evaluate resources, encourage you to maintain healthy behaviors, and learn ways of dealing with challenging situations. A Survivor-Mentor is available by calling 1-800-338-1383.

The APCF Peer Network is attended by survivors at all stages of diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Survivors are encouraged to actively share their stories and support each other.  Four topic areas are stressed:

  • Emotional distress including fear, sadness, sleep problems, loss of hope
  • Communication among partners, family, friends, healthcare professionals
  • Finding meaning again
  • Physical concerns such as pain, sexual and intimacy issues, incontinence, treatment side effects
