The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation (APCF) received the Most Outstanding State Prostate Cancer Organization Award from the National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions (NASPCC). The Award was presented at the 14th NASPCC Annual Meeting held in Washington DC on October 13, 2018 that was attended by representatives from 32 state organizations. Merel Gray Nissenberg, NASPCC President presented the award to APCF Executive Director Ms. Beverlyn Eckert, LCSW, JD. “I was totally taken by surprise at the announcement of this award”, said Ms. Eckert. “The Foundation is extremely honored to receive this prestigious recognition, and is more determined than ever to continue its free education, screening and patient support programs statewide.”
NASPCC is a nation-wide organization comprised of state coalitions dedicated to saving men’s lives and enhancing the quality of life of prostate cancer patients and their families, through awareness and education and the development of a public policy network. The Award presented to APCF is only the second such award presented by the organization in its 14 year history.
Last year APCF screened 2,579 men for prostate cancer and provided prostate health awareness and educational information to over 62,000 people at 65 events throughout the state. In addition, 492 men received one-on-one patient navigation services.
The mission of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation is to promote awareness, encourage timely detection and support improved treatment of prostate cancer in Arkansas.
